Well, the catalog server is basically a search engine for OFF catalogs. It starts with one or more catalog roots and creates a local index that can be searched privately. It also enable the merging of CMI into external catalog references.

The catalog server will be embedded into each OFF node. It is also the heart of the catalog project's web search.
